Please note that this not an exhaustive inventory of this regulation feature (technical criteria from MNR dictate that surface water reaches draining greater than 125 hectares be considered as part of the riverine flood hazard) and only represents what floodplains are currently mapped. Therefore there are regulatory floodplains that are not mapped but are covered by the text of the regulation. The data currently includes both This feature class depicts floodplains regulated by the Authority as the Riverine Flood Hazard under the Generic Regulation of the Conservation Authorities Act (Ontario Regulation 97/04). regulatory floodplains, and advisory floodplains. This dataset was developed by creating polygons from the polyline geometry of the flood lines in the Authority's Riverine Floodplain Mapping database. Please note most of the floodplains are based on the 100 year event but some systems in Niagara Falls specifically are still managed with the Regional Storm (Hurricane Hazel).

The GreatLakesShorelineFloodandErosionMapping feature class depicts all of the regulatory shoreline mapping features used to determine the flood, erosion and dynamic beach hazard limits under the Authority Lake Ontario and Lake Erie Shoreline Management Plans. This data was used to develop the shoreline hazard component for the Authority's Generic Regulation (Ontarion Regulation 97/04) mapping dataset.
This feature class depicts the top-of-slope features associated with valleylands regulated by the Authority as the Apparent Valley Riverine Erosion Hazard under the Generic Regulation of the Conservation Authorities Act known as Ontario Regulation 97/04. Top-of-slopes indicate the transition from an apparent valley wall, which rise to more than 3 meters from the toe of slope or associated watercourse, to the adjacent table lands. Top of slopes are categorized by their stability. Valley walls that exhibit slopes greater than 3:1 are deemed unstable. Top of slopes were identified and categorized through the topographic interpretation of a classified slope surface, DEM, 1m contours, and DTM breaklines.
This feature class depicts the allowance/setback applied to top-of-slope features associated with defining valleylands regulated by the Authority as the Apparent Valley Riverine Erosion Hazard under the Generic Regulation of the Conservation Authorities Act known as Ontario Regulation 97/04. A 15 metre setback was applied in the form of a buffer to these top of slope features for regulation mapping purposes regardless of their stability status since it was determined that there was not an accurate enough method of predicting stable tops via desktop analysis that the Authority would be confident defending other than a proper geotechnical review. The purpose of the allowance generated as part of the regulation mapping is to identify lands adjacent to the actaul hazard feature that are potentially prone to erosion so actual setbacks may differ as a result of the review process depending on the stability of the slope and site specific circumstances.

This feature class depicts areas regulated by the Authority as 'Other Areas' under the Generic Regulation of the Conservation Authorities Act known as Ontario Regulation 97/04. In the NPCA's implementation 'Other Areas' specifically means a 30m wetland allowance that identifies lands where development could interfere with the function of a wetland. Please note that the extent of the allowance data only corresponds to the associated regulated wetlands that are currently mapped and is not an exhaustive inventory of this regulation feature. There are both regulated wetland and wetland allowances not mapped that are covered by the text of the regulation.
The Niagara Escarpment includes a variety of topographic features and land uses extending 725 kilometres from Queenston on the Niagara River to the islands off Tobermory on the Bruce Peninsula. The Niagara Escarpment Plan serves as a framework of objectives and policies to strike a balance between development, preservation and the enjoyment of this important resource. This feature class represents six of the seven land use designations that explain how land shall be used throughout the area of the Niagara Escarpment Plan. The extent of the dataset corresponds to the Niagara Watershed. The data was released by the Niagara Escarpment Commission in July, 2007.
